Lafayette was Here – 199 Years Ago Today! North Carolina History Museum Saturday, March 2, 3:00 pm The North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati and the American Friends of Lafayette will introduce a travelogue of Lafayette’s stops in North Carolina in 1825 during his Farewell Tour of the United States. The travelogue project was funded by North Carolina Humanities, the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati, and the Lafayette Society of Fayetteville. This is an in-person event. EVENT DETAILS PLACE: North Carolina History Museum ADDRESS: 5 E Edenton St, Raleigh, NC 27601 DATE & TIME: Saturday, March 2, 3:00 pm The event will be held in the Longleaf Room on Level R and is open to the public. The program will consist of: Alan Hoffman, President of the American Friends of Lafayette, will present “A Farewell Tour Primer.” Hoffman is the translator of Lafayette in America in 1824 and 1825, a first-hand account of the Farewell Tour, written by Lafayette’s private secretary, Auguste Levasseur. Alan Hoffman will also introduce the app that supports the virtual travelogue of the stops that Lafayette made in North Carolina from February 26 to March 5, 1825. Mr. Hoffman will discuss the production of the travelogue and demonstrate the app by playing several stories on a large screen. Chuck Schwam, the AFL’s Executive Director, will report on the Bicentennial activities that the AFL is planning for 2024 and 2025. AFL board member, Frank Womble will be discussing Lafayette Bicentennial plans in North Carolina and AFL Vice President, Hank Parfitt will present on Lafayette’s Bicentennial specific to Fayetteville, North Carolina. Weather permitting, we will walk to one or two of the Raleigh sites that Lafayette visited to demonstrate how the travelogue app activates a narrated story as you approach the site.
